The State Reference Laboratory(SRL) along with Integrated Counselling and Testing center (ICTC) 1 & 2 the diagnostic laboratory for HIV/AIDS at Goa Medical College has been awarded with certificate of Accreditation by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration of Laboratories (NABL), an agency for certification of the
testing done in the laboratories, nationwide.
The Laboratory is run by the Department of Microbiology, Goa Medical College-Bambolim and is supported by Goa
State AIDS Control Society -NACO. It is a formal recognition of competence of the faculty and Technical staff of the Integrated Testing and counselling center (ICTC) who have been working hard for this achievement. The laboratory boasts of giving HIV diagnostic and disease monitoring services as per international standards and the report generated from this laboratory will be acceptable in any country around the world following such standard.
Associate Professor – Head of Department of Microbiology, GMC Dr. Maria Jose Wiseman Pinto, expressed her happiness for the NABL accreditation for the laboratory and thanked the Dean of GMC Dr .S. Bandekar and Project Director GSACS – Director DHS Dr. Geeta Kakodkar for their constant help and support.
The facilitation for planning and related approvals was done by GSACS and the whole process was funded and guided by the National AIDS Control Organisation.
