WATER RESOURCE DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES WORLD WATER DAY

The Water Resources Department (WRD) celebrated World Water Day at Sinchay Bhavan in Porvorim today. Minister for WRD Shri. Vinod Palyekar was the Chief Guest. A guest lecture on the topic ‘Understanding Trans-Basin Water Transfer’ by WRD advisor of Mhadei dispute, Shri. Chetan Pandit was organized to mark the occasion. Chief Engineer Shri. S.D. Nadkarni, Director (Administration) Shri. Umeshchandra Joshi, Superintending Engineer Shri. S.D. Patil and other officers of WRD were present on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, Minister for WRD Shri. Palyekar urged people to carefully use the available natural resources. “Nothing in this world is permanent. If we do not conserve our natural resources, our future generation will be at a great loss. Hence, we must use water and other natural resources very wisely. Every drop of water counts. Though the department works towards the proper supply of water, we also, must equally treasure the natural sources of water and keep them clean,” he said.

 

The function began with lighting the tradition lamp. Chief Engineer Shri. Nadkarni welcomed the gathering while Addl. Chief Engineer Shri. Premanand J. Kamat gave an insight into the work carried out by the department.

In his lecture on ‘Understanding Trans-Basin Water Transfer’ Shri. Chetan Pandit spoke about Mhadei Disputes and its current status. He shared the knowledge about old water channels planned by the Govt in order to facilitate the smooth supply of water to the public. “There is a need to plan, develop, utilize and regulate the water resources in an optimal and eco-friendly manner involving a blend of traditional and technological innovative methods to preserve this precious resource for posterity,” he said.

The Minister later felicitated retired Chief Engineers Er. R.C.Dharwad,  Er. V.P. Palandikar, Er. S.M. Nadkarni,  Er. S.D. Naik and retired Addition Chief Engineers Shri. P.S. Khandeparker, Shri. V.U.B. Gaitonde, Shri. S. Parmasivam and Shri. Vishwanath Valandi. Shri. S.V. Khanolkar and Shri. A.R.S. Murthi was honored posthumously.

The programme was compered by Deputy Director (Admin) Dr. Geeta Nagvenkar while Director (Admin) Shri. Umeshchandra Joshi proposed vote of thanks.
