GOVERNOR EXTENDS HOLI GREETINGS

             Panaji: March 1, 2018

                                                                                                Phalguna 10, 1939

Governor of Goa, Smt. Mridula Sinha has conveyed her heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa on the auspicious occasion of ‘Holi’ which will be celebrated on March 2, 2018.

In her message the Governor has said “Every year Holi festival brings a rainbow of colours to the streets of India. The Holika bonfire is ignited a night before Holi, which brings people together for an evening of music and joy. The following day the bonfire gives way for a free-for all carnival of colours. The true intention of this festival is to bring together strangers, uniting the rich and poor, men and women, children and elders and people from different religions, caste and creed”.

The Governor has further stated that “Holi also means “sacrifice”. Burns all the impurities of the mind such as egoism, vanity, lust, etc., through the fire of devotion and knowledge and ignite cosmic love, mercy, generosity, selflessness, truthfulness and purity etc. This is the real sprit of Holi. It is the festival which is a reminder that we must live our lives in a spirit of service and sacrifice. Holi symbolizes victory of our higher aspirations. It is the burning of our petty, material desires at the altar of our goal of self-development. It stands for the victory of good over evil, a theme that runs through every Indian festival”.

May the celebration of Holi this year bring added happiness and prosperity to one and all, she added.
