IAFO CONFERENCE TO BEGIN FROM SEPTEMBER 28 AT BAMBOLIM

1st International and 16th National Indian Association of Forensic Odontology (IAFO) Conference will be held in Goa with International Organization for Forensic Odonto- Stomatology’s (IAFOS) patronage from September 28 to 30, 2018. The theme for the conference is “Forensic Odontology Marching into the Digital Era’ and 450 National and International Delegates are expected to participate in the same.

This conference is a three-day event with pre-conference courses being held on the first day and Guest Lecture and Scientific session on the second and third day. Dental Surgeons, Police Personnel and Members of Judiciary are invited as a speaker, panelists and delegates. Important recommendations would be put up for adoption to ensure uniform digital dental data to be recorded in dental institutions and private practices and other measures to enhance person identification. The pre-conference courses cover various topics on Forensic Dentistry like Age Estimation, Dermatoglyphics, Bite Mark Investigation, and Forensic Dental Identification.

The Guest Lecture will include topics like quality assurance in Forensic Dentistry, application of Radiology in Forensic Dentistry Odontological Investigations, dental atlas-revisiting 75 years old story, caste dynamics in India its implications for sample selection for disease investigations, bite mark analysis, dying for one’s beliefs the use of teeth in the identification of remains in a case of historical importance to India and Odontological blueprint in forensic human identification excerpts from DVI case services.

The Guest lecture will be delivered by various International and National speakers such as Prof. Vilma Pinchi, Associate Professor of Legal Medicine at University of Florence, Italy, Dr. Phrabhakaran Nambiar, Professor, Faculty of Dentistry, MAHSA University, Malaysia, Dr. Jayakumar Jayaraman, Paediatric from Hong Kong, Dr. Samarika Dahal, Assistant Professor, Department of Dentistry, Tribhuvan University, Nepal, Prof. B.V.Bhanu, Professor, Dept. of Anthropology, Univ. of  Pune (retired), Dr. Ajit Dinkar, Ex-Prof and Head, Oral Medicine and Radiology Dept. Goa Dental College and Hospital and Dr. Ashith B. Acharya, an Australia, trained forensic odontologist and heads India’s first exclusive department of forensic dentistry in S.D.M.

Under the scientific sessions, faculty and students delegates will present papers and posters on September 29 and 30, 2018. The event is sponsored by Goa Tourism and Directorate of Art and Culture.
