Commemoration of 125th Anniversary of speech by Swami Vivekananda and 150th Birth Anniversary of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi.

The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, (GBSHSE) Goa, in its Executive Council Meeting has passed the resolution to commemorate 125th Anniversary speech by Swami Vivekananda and 150th (Sesquicentennial) Birth Anniversary of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi in a befitting manner.

Considering, the historic importance of the speech delivered 125 years ago by Swami Vivekananda before the world conference of religions at Chicago on 11 September 1893, and to transmit noble values from his life and work in a secular and progressive manner to impressionable young minds in educational institutions affiliated to Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Goa, appropriate activities such as essay competition, elocution competitions, readings of Swamijis speeches, interclass debates, creation of wallpapers etc. shall be organized to commemorate 125 years of Swamiji's speech.

Further, Heads of Institutions shall form committees to celebrate 150th (sesquicentennial) Birth Anniversary of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi (2-10-1869 to 2-10-2020) and plan suitable programmes. Whereas Government of India has already notified 24 March a National committee to commemorate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, with Hon.ble Chief Minister of Goa, as a member.

In view of the approaching sesquicentennial anniversary of father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, the official celebrations of which may be launched nationally from Oct 2, 2018. It is informed that all educational institutions affiliated to GBSHSE could form Mahatma Gandhi Sesquicentennial Birth Anniversary Committees with representation to teachers, merited students, PTA members and plan suitable activities for the period October 2, 2018 to October 2, 2020 with focus on life and work of Mahatma Gandhi.


The committee may also implement instructions from Government of India and State Government issued for the same. Students and teachers need to be well informed from the beginning of the new academic years 2018-19 regarding importance of this anniversary.

The Government of India has decided to observe the period beginning from 02-10-2018 till 02-10-2020 for the celebration with main events focussed on 02-10-2019 completion of 150 years.

A report of activities undertaken need to be sent to the Joint Secretary, Academic Section of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, (GBSHSE) Goa end of October 2018 for further needful action.
