GOVERNOR CONVENES SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN REVIEW MEETING

Governor of Goa, Dr. (Smt) Mridula Sinha convened a review meting of all nominated ambassadors from across the country for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Raj Bhavan recently.

The Governor of Goa, who was nomined by the Prime Minister as Brand Ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, in her opening remarks emphasized the need for such review meetings for the purpose of reporting of the various activities conducted by the nominated ambassadors as well as stake holder, so that one partner could know what others are doing and the best practices are replicated in different parts of the country. Dr. Sinha said that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has taken the form of revolution and its effects can be seen all over the country and there has been significant behavioural change in the community towards cleanliness.

In her concluding remarks the Governor of Goa appealed to all the participants to prepare an action plan for Swachh Bharat Mission for next one year commencing from Gandhi Jayanti, i.e. October 2, 2018.  The Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Manohar Parrikar who graced the occasion said that the value education and civic awareness towards traffic, health and sanitation, more particularly the importance of  ‘swachchta’ must be inculcated in the children from very early stages which would bring about the change in habit of the society. The Chief Minister further said that the personal hygiene leads to community hygiene and helps build a healthy society.

The Minister of Panchayat, Shri Mauvin Godinho who is also the brand ambassador of the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan informed that 60,000 Bio-toilets would be constructed  throughout the state under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’. Shri Godinho further informed that the Government has enhanced the grants for garbage management to provide support for the Village Panchayat. The Ministers also emphasized the need of stringent legislation that would deter the public from littering. Further appealed to the singers and the top artiste come on a common platform for the cause of Swachh Bharat Mission.

Shri Suresh Sharma ,Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Government of Bihar who is also the brand ambassador for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,informed how the waste is converted into manure and flyash and is used in constructing roads, as a substitute for sand in Bihar. He also informed that upon the advice of the Governor of Goa, some of the filthy black spots have also been converted into parks for children.

The nominated ambassador, institutional nominees across the country, coordination committee members and various stakeholders, such as; voluntary organization, hoteliers, industry, education institution, media, real estate developers, hospitals, religious heads, self help group, petrol pumps dealers of Goa, were among the other participants who attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed various activities conducted by the nominated  ambassadors' who had arrived from seven different states of the country. After the review, various resolutions were adopted such as Plantation of trees at different locations, installation of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission' messages at public places, entry points like airports, bus stand , railway station highways etc, painting of boundary walls of Government Institutions with a theme of Swacchta and local art and culture. It was also resolved that the institutional nominees of the Governor would adopt at least two villages and two parks in vicinity  of their working area for the purpose of Swachh Bharat Mission. Further all the nominees and stakeholders agreed to give due respect to the dignity of labour and award the best Safai Karmacharis of their respective areas. It was also resolved that citizens would be motivated to offer at least two hours voluntary service towards cleanliness drive and at least 100 hours of voluntary services in year.

The  meeting gave an opportunity for interaction between Swachh Abhiyan ambassador from various States.
