          The Directorate of Agriculture has compiled their report of the Agricultural Prospects for the month of June, 2018. The report is as follows : Preparations for Kharif Paddy cultivation are in full swing. Land preparation and raising of nursery are underway. Inorder to reduce dependency on manual labour, mechanized Paddy transplanting is being taken up on a campaign mode to cover 500 hectares during the season. The service provider raises the nursery of the desired variety besides doing the transplanting. Thereby, many land owners who would not be able to cultivate their field can get them planted on turnkey basis saving on time and costs.

          Community farming project covering 50 hectares has commenced at     St. Estevam in Tiswadi. These fields were earlier fallow for more than 20 years.

          In order to reduce the cost of cultivation of Paddy, 50% subsidy is provided on hire charges of agriculture machinery for land preparation and Paddy transplanting Services of machinery purchased on subsidy through agricultural mechanization scheme are also used for this purpose to supplement efforts of the Department.

          Mini-kits of new paddy varieties are being supplied to Government farms during Kharif 2018 for evaluation performance.

          Adequate stock of fertilizers / pesticides is made available in the State through private dealers and co-operative sector outlets for Kharif 2018.

          An advanced workshop on “Value addition in Jackfruit” was conducted by Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Directorate of Agriculture on June 15.
