GOVERNMENT KEEN ON PROMOTING SPORTS IN GOA: SHRI AZGAONKAR

Government is keen on promoting sports in the state and upgrade the facilities to nurture sports culture in the state, stated Minister for Sports Shri. Manohar alias Babu Ajgaonkar. He was speaking at a programme organised by Sport Authority of Goa to felicitate athletes of special Olympics held at Secretariat, Porvorim yesterday. Cash awards worth Rupees One Crore were disbursed among the athletes  who have won medals at the World Summer Games held at Athens in 2011,  World Winter Games held at Korea in 2013 and World Winter Games held at Austria in 2017.

Special children have shown tremendous talent as they represented Goa at the International level and brought laurels to the state Shri Azgaonkar said, and also appreciated parents for taking pain to promote their children in Special Olympics. Sports policy executed by the Government played major role to promote sports and sportsmen at higher levels he lamented.

Secretary for Sports Shri. J.Ashok Kumar appreciated achievements of children in Special Olympics. Director for Sports and Youth Affairs and Executive Director for Sports Authority of Goa shri. V.M. Prabhudesai highlighted the efforts by the government and other agencies to promote sports at various level and expressed happiness as these efforts reflected in the form of medals for the state.  It is for first time in the state that Cash Prizes worth Rupees one crores is been given to athletes of Special Olympics Shri. Prabhudesai informed. 

Besides Coaches of various sports disciplines were felicitated with cash prizes for their contribution in Special Olympics.  Joint Director (Coaching), Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) Shri. Bruno Cotinho, Joint Director Shri. Satyawan Talwadkar, Treasurer Shri Vasant Naik, Area Director, Special Olympics Goa Chapter Smt. Vrushali Cardoz, Asst. Secretary (Prog) SAG Shri. Mahesh Rivonkar were present. Shri. Dattatray Prabhudesai compered the programme.
