PENALTY OF RS. 2,500/- IMPOSED FOR SUB-STANDARD ‘BUNS’

          The District Magistrate, North Goa, Smt Nila Mohanan, imposed a penalty of Rs. 2,500/- (Rupees two thousand, five hundred only), each, on     Shri Murlidhar Rai, Food Business Operator cum vendor, and Smt Savita M. Rai, owner of the firm, ‘M/s. Canteen’, K.T.C. Bus Terminus Complex, Panaji under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Rules / Regulations, for manufacturing and selling ‘Buns’, which was declared and reported to be ‘Sub-Standard’ as it contained added synthetic food colour identified as ‘Tartrazine’ which is not permitted, under the aforesaid Act, Rules and Regulations.

 

          The said sample of ‘Buns’ was drawn by the Senior Food Safety Officer, Shri Rajiv Korde of the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration, Bambolim, from one of the canteen premises.

 

          The said case was represented by Adv. Purushottam Karpe on behalf of the State.
