 Secretary Health, Shri Amit Satija IAS flagged off Information Education and Communication (IEC) Van at the function held at Azad Maidan, Panaji today organized by Goa State AIDS Control Society(GSACS) to commemorate the World Aids Day 2020.

The theme for this year is Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility. This year’s theme comprises of an increasing list of challenges that World AIDS Day has alerted people globally.

Shri Satija addressing the gathering lauded the work done by GSACS for taking the initiative for felicitating the Covid-19 warriors. He further said that the IEC Van which was flagged off will go to each and every taluka, spreading the messages about the AIDS in the remote parts of the State.

The fight is quite long of about 40 years and will continue for few more years to ensure that we eliminate the deadly virus from the society. The kind of action the Government and NGOs are taking no doubt will help to overcome the challenge of corona virus as well. The COVID warriors to continue work for the betterment of society, Shri Satija remarked.  

The Deputy Director Health, Dr. Geeta Kakodkar addressing the gathering said that GSACS has shown tremendous commitment and dedication as per their current status in controlling the AIDS.

Professor and Head of Microbiology Department GMC, Dr Savio Rodrigues giving brief about the GSACS said that the Society is heading towards completion of its target in controlling the AIDS and expressed his concern over the ongoing pandemic of Covid -19 virus.

On the occasion, prizes were presented to the winners of the Rangoli competition which was organized for the Self Help Groups (SHG) in Urban Local Body (ULB) and winners of the Slogan competition which was also organized for Industrial Workers.


Similarly volunteers, NGO, Covid-19 Plasma donors and working at Integrated Counsellors and Testing Centres (ICTC) were felicitated for braving the COVID-19 Pandemic.

           The function was followed by a street play performed by Lokranga Curchorem Goa Group.

Project Director, GSACS, Dr.A. Siona Gomes welcomed the gathering while A.D (IEC), GSACS, Shri Umakant Sawant proposed the vote of thanks.
