PENALTY OF RS. 5,000/- IMPOSED FOR SUB-STANDARD ‘FRIED GREEN PEAS’

          The District Magistrate, North Goa, Smt. Nila Mohanan imposed a penalty of Rs. 5,000/- (Rupees five thousand only), on Shri Chhaganlal R. Prajapati, proprietor of the firm; and Shri Netaji Vithoba Kanade, food business operator, ‘M/s Sunder Food Products’ H.No. 184/2, Gawali Waddo, Duler, Mapusa, Bardez, under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Rules / Regulations, for manufacturing and selling ‘Fried Green Peas’, which were declared and reported to be ‘Sub-Standard food’ as it contained synthetic food colours identified as ‘Tartrazine’ and Brilliant Blue FCF’ which are not permitted, under the aforesaid Act, Rules and Regulations.

 

          The said sample of ‘Fried Green Peas’ was drawn by the Food Safety Officer, Shri Atul Dessai of the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration, Bambolim.

 

          The said case was represented by Adv. Gaurish Agni on behalf of the state.
