Minister for Transport, Shri. Mauvin Godinho today disbursed sanction orders under the Goa State Interim Compensation to Road Accidents  Scheme to the road accident victims and their survivors at a programme held at Secretariat, Porvorim. The scheme is implemented by the Transport Department and aims to provide monetary relief to the road accident victims irrespective of their insurance benefits.

Minister Shri. Godinho appealed to the road accident victims to approach the Transport Department to avail the benefits of the Scheme as a large section of people is still unaware about the Scheme and thus could not receive its benefits so far. Shri. Godinho disbursed 22 sanction orders to accident victims under the Scheme.

The Goa State Interim Compensation to Road Accidents  Scheme is enforced by the Transport Department since 2015 but it was not publicised much therefore very few people have approached the Department so far. The Transport Department has now taken efforts to simplify the Scheme and provide immediate monetary help to a larger section of people. The Scheme has benefitted 122 beneficiaries till now.

The Scheme provides Rs. 2 lakhs as monetary help in case of death. Rs 1.50 lakhs in case of permanent injury. Rs. One lakh in case of serious permanent injury not leading to loss of job or occupation but hospitalization exceeds 60 days immediately after accident. Also in case of less serious injury Rs.50 thousands of help can be availed, and Rs. 10 thousands is provided in case of 3 to 7 days of hospitalisation.
