GOVERNOR, CM PAYS TRIBUTES TO MARTYRS ON GOA REVOLUTION DAY

Governor Shri. Satya Pal Malik and Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant led the state in paying tributes to martyrs on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day at the Martyrs Memorial, Azad Maidan in the city, today. Tributes were paid to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the memorial.

Chief Secretary, Shri. Parimal Rai, IAS, Collector, North, Ms R. Menaka, IAS, Secretary to the Governor, Shri Rupesh Kumar Thakur, IAS, Secretary, Revenue and Information and Publicity, Shri Sanjay Kumar, IAS, Inspector General of Police, Shri Jaspal Singh, IPS, Director, Information and Publicity, Ms Meghana Shetgaonkar,

Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), Shri Uday Madkaikar, were among those present on the occasion.

Goa Revolution Day is observed every year on June 18 to recall the clarion call given by Dr Ram Manohar Lohia to the people of Goa to fight against the colonial rule and liberate Goa from the Portuguese regime. This call inspired many Goans which ultimately resulted in attaining Liberation by Goa on December 19, 1961. The day is also observed to recall the sacrifices of known and unknown freedom fighters of the freedom struggle movement of Goa.
