Governor of Goa,  Shri Satya Pal Malik has extended his greetings to the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day. The Governor in his message has said that  Goa Revolution Day which is commemorated annually on 18thJune has special significance for Goans as it was on this day in 1946, freedom fighter Dr Ram Manohar Lohia had given a clarion call to Goans to fight for the state's liberation from Portuguese rule. The call inspired many Goans to fight for the state's liberation. Goa was finally liberated from Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961 after 450 years.

The Governor further said that the intervening period witnessed an era of supreme sacrifice by the freedom fighters, whereby many embraced Martyrdom and thousands of others went through untold hardships, torture and deportation. What is equally important is that people from different parts of the country had voluntarily joined their hands in this fight for liberation of Goa. We must all bow our heads in reverence to the memory of those who made it possible for Goans to live in dignity and plan out their own course of action for the future. It is of utmost importance that the society treats the Freedom Fighters with respect and honour.

On this occasion of Goa Revolution Day, let us salute the sacrifice and valor of freedom fighters and I urge the people of Goa to continue to dedicate themselves to hard work, communal harmony & unity to promote prosperity & peace in the State, the Governor concluded.
