Vice President of India Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu adressing the gathering

          “There is no place for violence in a democracy. Be constructive and develop a positive outlook. The need of the hour is to channelize the energies of the youth in a constructive and nation building activities. Young people must shun negativism and discourage violence,” said Vice President of India Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu while addressing the students at the 32nd Annual Convocation of Goa University. Governor Shri. Satya Pal Malik, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Vice Chancellor of Goa University Prof. Varun Sahani and Registrar Dr. Y.V.Reddy were present on the occasion.

           Beginning his address in Konkani, Shri. Naidu expressed his happiness that 65% of the graduate students are women. He congratulated the students, faculty members and parents for their success. “Convocation is a milestone beginning of a new chapter in a student’s life. Learning is a continuous process and one must keep learning,” he told. He also urged the students to acquire skills, upgrade them time to time, and set goals and work hard to achieve them. “Your strength of committement will contribute to the excellence of the country.  Keep values and traditions alive and focus on inclusive growth. In the recent times, people are talking about the importance of the Constitution. Follow the ethics, create opportunities and enhance knowledge,” Shri. Naidu said.

          He also expressed that taking primary education in mother tongue helps us to understand concepts in a clear and better way.

          Governor Shri Satya Pal Malik in his address said that in today’s time, significance of an academic degree is judged by its ability of problem solving. “The Goa University is committed towards overall development of its students. As a social responsibility, this University has worked to identify and resolve many social issues by organising various programs. In last 35 years, the Goa University has left its marks in the spheres of academia and research and stands 3rd in rank in Small Universities in the country. It is one of the developing Universities trying to be the best in each sector of education,” the Governor informed.

          78 PhDs and more than 70 prizes and medals to graduate and post graduate students were given on the occasion.

          Prof Varun Sahani welcomed the gathering while Dr. Y.V.Reddy proposed the vote of thanks.
