WORLD MALARIA DAY OBSERVED

          Directorate of Health Services in association with National Vector Borne Disease Control Program (NVBDCP) observed World Malaria Day at the Seminar Hall, Secretariat in Porvorim today.

Dean of Goa Medical College Dr. Pradip Naik was the Chief Guest for the function. Director of Health Services Dr. Sanjiv Dalvi, Deputy Director of NVBDCP Dr. Anant Palekar, OSD to Minister for Health Dr. Rajnanda Dessai, Director of National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) Dr. Ashwini Kumar and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vandana Dheme were present on the occasion.

          The program began with lighting the traditional lamp. Dr. Dalvi welcomed the gathering. In his address he urged the people to help the department in making the state Malaria free.

          While addressing the gathering, Dr. Pradip Naik appreciated the tasks undertaken by NVBDCP. He also mentioned that Goa is one of the 15 states which is on the verge of being Malaria free and hence, the role of people in keeping their home and work premises clean is equally important.

           Deputy Director of NVBDCP Dr. Anant Palekar gave a Powerpoint presentation about steps taken NVBDCP to eliminate Malaria. He suggested measures to be taken by the citizens to prevent themselves from Malaria as well as highlighted the steps planned by the Department in doing the same.   

          Dr. Kalpana Mahatme compered and proposed the vote of thanks. The function was attended by Medical Officers, senior Government officials and staff of Directorate of Health Services.
