GOVERNOR EXTENDS VISHU AND BAISAKHI GREETINGS

Governor of Goa, Smt. (Dr.) Mridula Sinha has extended warm greetings to the people of Goa on the auspicious occasion of Vishu and Baisakhi.

 

Governor in her message said that,  India is recognized worldwide for its diversity of cultaral and traditions. Celebration of New Year in different parts of India is an integral part of the culture mosaic. States like Haryana and Punjab, which is known to be rich in agriculture, the festival of Baisakhi implies that it is time for harvest of winter crops or rabi and beginning of new year. Therefore, this festival is extremely important for farmers and known as thanksgiving festival. Similarly, in Kerala the festival is called Vishu, and people of Kerala celebrate Vishu as a new beginning and auspicious day. All around Kerala it is celebrated with colorful rituals and customs, accompanied by joy and merriment. The traditional rituals followed in these festivals are believed to usher in another year of prosperity. Both these festivals share the spirit that can be observed in all the festivals of spring – the spirit of hope and expectations that a new dawn brings with it.

 

May the celebrations of New Year occasions of Vishu and Baisakhi this year bring  greater happiness and prosperity to everyone, the Governor added.
